Day of the Dead with Jaguar Journey

DESCUBRE LA ESENCIA DEL TOUR

Some journeys take us to new places, while others bring us closer to the stories, traditions, and people that give a culture its identity.

At Jaguar Journey, we invite you to experience Day of the Dead in Quintana Roo in an authentic, personal, and meaningful way. Together, we will visit communities where traditions remain alive, discover the flavors of regional cuisine, and share cultural experiences that remind us of the importance of honoring the memory of those who came before us.

Over four days, we will combine the spirit of local celebrations with extraordinary evening experiences, from the Alma y Raíz Festival in Leona Vicario to Janal Pixán in Puerto Juárez, the Mar de Almas Festival in Puerto Morelos, and the Festival of Life and Death Traditions at Xcaret.

We will also enjoy a special evening on the canals of Mayakoba with Between Worlds, an immersive experience that connects nature, memory, and the world of our ancestors. What will truly make this journey special, however, is not only what we visit, but the way we experience it.

  1. Día one

    Alma y Raíz Festival

We will begin our journey in Leona Vicario, a community where Day of the Dead is experienced through local traditions, music, and the remembrance of loved ones.

We will have time to explore the town, discover local spaces, and enjoy a regional meal before joining the Alma y Raíz Festival in the afternoon and evening.

The festival is confirmed for October 30, 2026. However, the exact schedule for the procession and other activities still needs to be verified in the detailed program. Last year’s procession included jaranera music and a route through the town's streets.

  2. Día two

Janal Pixán and Mayakoba: Between Worlds

Our second day will combine two different experiences. First, we will visit Puerto Juárez to experience Janal Pixán, the Mayan tradition of honoring loved ones who have passed away.

The confirmed activities include altar and catrina contests along the main avenue of Puerto Juárez. The maritime procession and catrina parade took place in previous editions, but their schedule and exact programming for 2026 have not yet been confirmed.

Later, we will continue to Mayakoba for Between Worlds, an immersive Day of the Dead experience that combines a boat ride through the canals with a story inspired by the memory of the ancestors.

Please note that, as part of the requirements for attending the Between Worlds event at Mayakoba on October 31, it is essential to have dinner at one of the restaurants within the complex. To complement the experience, we have selected a restaurant specializing in Mexican gastronomy, allowing us to continue the evening through the flavors and culinary traditions of Mexico. Dinner is not included in the experience and will be paid separately by each traveler.

The activity is officially announced from October 30 to November 1, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., departing from MK Blue at Banyan Tree Mayakoba.

Combining both activities is possible if Janal Pixán is visited during the afternoon and we leave Puerto Juárez at approximately 6:00 p.m.

A Different Kind of Experience, with the Jaguar Journey Spirit

We have designed this journey for a small group of up to 10 travelers because we believe the most meaningful experiences are enjoyed without rushing, with time to observe, listen, learn, and connect with our surroundings.

  • Personal attention and a close-knit atmosphere. A small group allows us to provide more personalized service, adapt to the pace of the journey, and enjoy each celebration more comfortably.
  • Culture with context. We do not want to simply observe altars, processions, or performances. We want to understand the stories, symbols, and traditions that give meaning to these celebrations.
  • Connection with local communities. We prioritize local cultural expressions, regional cuisine, and family-owned businesses, helping ensure that tourism benefits the people who keep these traditions alive.
  • Carefully selected experiences. We combine community celebrations with large-scale cultural events, creating a balance between authenticity, comfort, and memorable moments.
  • Thoughtful logistics. We carefully organize transportation and schedules, especially on the day that combines Puerto Juárez and Mayakoba, so you can focus on enjoying the experience.
  • Respect for tradition. We approach these celebrations with sensitivity, understanding that Day of the Dead is not merely a spectacle, but a profound expression of memory, identity, and family connection.

Four Days to Feel, Learn, and Remember

From the community atmosphere of Leona Vicario to the seaside celebrations of Puerto Morelos; from the illuminated canals of Mayakoba to the altars, music, and artistic expressions of Xcaret, each day will reveal a different side of this special season.

This journey is an opportunity to discover Quintana Roo beyond its beaches, connect with its cultural richness, and share moments that will remain with us long after we return home.

We want you to return with photographs, flavors, and memories, but also with a deeper understanding of the people and traditions that make this region of Mexico so unique.

If you are looking for more than a sightseeing tour, this journey is for you. It is an invitation to celebrate life, honor memory, and discover culture from a close, respectful, and human perspective.

Places are limited to a maximum of 10 participants in order to preserve the intimate and personalized nature of the experience.

At Jaguar Journey, we believe that travel is an opportunity to truly connect: with places, with communities, and with the stories that unite us as human beings.
